Ugh...Terrible Website...

I might not be a web designer, but my eyes and ears are suffering. I needed to share this website. Everything about it is terrible. It's a weird dealership website. It's  http://www.lingscars.com/ If you hate it also, let me know.

Topic 3: HTML5 - Simple, Clean, Elegant Code

A most interesting class this was. Some keypoints that I came out with:

1. Simple is better.
2. User first!
3. Keep Content and Presentation completely separated.
4. Do not think of HTML as a Word Document. Keep the bolding, italics, and other styling for CSS.
5. Keep HTML code clean and structured - ie. Use indentation and spacing for readability.

Here are a few websites which I found helpful while practicing HTML and CSS.

• Team Treehouse - Website Basics - Though the rest of the series is not free, this beginning course is offered for free and it provides a very interactive way to learn HTML and CSS. A downside to this is that they have an example where HTML and CSS are not separated.
• Lynda.com - This website is great because like Team Treehouse, they have video tutorials for HTML, but unlike Team Treehouse, they are not as interactive.
• MSDN - Learn HTML5 in 5 Minutes - Although it takes more than 5 minutes, this was pretty useful, it's not comprehensive by any means, but it can help you understand some concepts about HTML5.
• w3.org - This was mentioned by Professor Marques. Great reference page to look up elements and their specific attributes, among other things.

Topic 2: Getting Started - What Tools Do I need?

The topic for class #2 for COP 3813 was on the tools. Professor Oge Marquez taught us about the different tools we are going to need through the course. These are the specific tools I'm going to be working with. I will add more along the line if I don't include them here.

1. Browsers

• Google Chrome
• Mozilla Firefox

2. Development Extensions for the browsers

• Built-in for Google Chrome
• Firebug for FireFox

3. Editor - Notepad++

4. Graphics Editor - Paint.NET

I've just installed these and I'm looking forward to using them. Paint.NET I have been using already and I feel it is a good, light-weight, free alternative to Adobe Photoshop.

Topic 1: Initializing COP 3813 - Intro to Internet Computing...

Hello World! This is my first blog! It is a new experience for me so here we go!

This is my first assignment for the class COP 3813, entitled 'Introduction to Internet Computing', at Florida Atlantic University. I'm excited about this course because I haven't ever had any proper training with internet programming. I will also be able to add these programming languages to my resume! I'm looking forward to it!
